Santawani

< Back

A very game rich area in the south-eastern part of the Moremi , Santawani flanks the cut line of the reserve and the Mongogelo River to the south.

The government of Botswana recently created various policies aimed at increasing local participation and ownership in the tourism industry in the Okavango Delta. In support of these policies and hoping to further promote wildlife conservation in the region, AWF (African Wildlife Foundation) collaborated in a sustainable community development enterprise effort to promote the Santawani Lodge Project. This was accomplished in conjunction with AWF's USAID-funded Four Corners Transboundary Natural Resources Management Project.

Santawani is an excellent area for bird-watching, as relatively easy vehicle access to the permanent water pools together with a good diversity of habitat allows for close up sightings of many different and interesting species.
